Our Earth helps us feel supported, stable, balanced and in control. Why? Because of gravity. If it weren’t for gravity we would be floating around all over the place and this would create a feeling of being out of control in our bodies and our thoughts.
When we feel out of control, overwhelmed, anxious or stressed, yoga can help with grounding postures that connect us to the earth element and help give us a feeling of safety. Connecting with this element reminds us of what our basic needs are like getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, eating the right foods and keeping clean.
We can also connect with the earth and this feeling of safety by:
- Going for a walk in nature
- Barefoot walking – there are positive electrons in the earth’s surface that enhance our physical and emotional wellbeing
- Eating root vegetables
